Who We Are
Mona Institute of Hospitality, Tourism, Travel, Management and Research Development of Nigeria stands as the apex institution for training, certification, and professional development in Nigeria's hospitality, travel, and tourism industry.
Founded in 2017, the Institute was designed to bridge the skills gap and enhance service quality within the sector. Located in Abuja, MIHTTMRDN is devoted to the pursuit of higher knowledge in hospitality, tourism and travel — and its dissemination to a diverse audience.
Over the years, Mona Institute has established a distinguished identity and reached a commanding position among sectoral institutions in the country. With its focus on meeting the changing needs of the tourism and travel industry, it has played a pioneering role in the propagation and professionalisation of hospitality and tourism education.
The management of the Institute is entrusted to the Board of Governing Council with the President as Chairperson. The Institute is a research, higher, vocational and tertiary level professional membership institution established to meet the changing manpower needs of Hospitality, Tourism, Travel and allied Industries.

To provide education and membership structure aimed at guaranteeing excellent standards of service within Hospitality, Tourism, Travels and related Industries.
To furnish the Hospitality, Tourism and Travel Sector with professional personnel who can provide quality standard products and services within Tourism, Travel, Hospitality and associated Industries.
To promote professional ethics and efficiency in hospitality, tourism, travels, administration and practice across all levels of the industry.
To provide accreditation, education, and certification in all branches of tourism thought and endeavour, including vocational and academic education, research studies, CPD, TVET training, and to certify individuals through examination and assessment.
Join the Institute
The Council evaluates recognised qualifications and/or employment experience. As members progress, they may apply for higher grades. There are six grades of membership, together with the honorary award of Fellow.
One who is studying for an MIHTTMRDN qualification but who may or may not yet have employment experience within the industry.
Currently EnrolledOne who is employed within the industry, but whose employment experience is not yet sufficient for admission to Licentiate or higher status.
Entry LevelOne who is employed and has a minimum of 1 year of approved experience in the Tourism Industry, demonstrating foundational professional competency.
Min. 1 Year ExperienceOne who is employed and has a minimum of 2 years of approved experience within the industry, indicating developing professional capability.
Min. 2 Years ExperienceOne who is employed and has a minimum of 4 years of approved experience in the Tourism Industry, with demonstrated professional competence.
Min. 4 Years ExperienceOne who is employed and has a minimum of 8 years of approved experience in the Tourism Industry, representing substantial expertise.
Min. 8 Years ExperienceAwarded selectively by the MIHTTMRDN Council to distinguished individuals who have made a significant and outstanding contribution to the Institute or to the Tourism Industry in general. This is the highest honour conferred by the Institute and cannot be applied for — it is bestowed at the Council's discretion.
